IT support in Exeter
Exeter is Devon’s county city and its main business centre, and it is where most of this practice sits. The organisations are usually professional firms, established SMEs, and offices with a city address and a second site on a park. They want the mail to keep arriving, the wireless to reach the meeting room, and a person who will say what changed.
The city centre and older buildings
Centre buildings were not designed as comms rooms. Risers are shared, sometimes with other tenants and a landlord’s contractor. Stone and lath stop wireless in ways a plan will not show until someone stands in the room. Loading and parking are booked, not assumed. We agree the access notes before the day, including who meets us and which door is real.
Work on a live floor is arranged around the reception, the meeting or the shop, not through them. If a change can happen before the office opens, and you want that, it is scheduled. If it has to happen at noon, you know that before we start.
Southernhay and the professional offices
A good share of Exeter’s professional offices sits around Southernhay and the streets near the cathedral. Many are multi-let. The building’s wireless is not your network, and it should not become one. We keep the tenant’s staff network, the guest path and anything the landlord controls as separate facts, written down, so a fault is not argued between three parties who each think they own the air.
Confidentiality is ordinary here. Matters, clients and files are not discussed in a shared stairwell, and they are not used as examples elsewhere. Access is for the task the named person authorised.
Marsh Barton and Matford
South of the centre, Marsh Barton and Matford are trade, motor, distribution and light industry, often with a small office attached to a much larger floor. The failure that matters may be the ordering system, the phones at the counter, or wireless that was installed for a mezzanine and never reached the racking. We ask what stops the yard or the counter before we talk about anything else.
Cabling in these buildings is usually possible. It is also usually dusty, high, and in the way of people who are trying to work. The window for that is agreed with the person who runs the floor, not only with the office.
Sowton, Pynes Hill and the eastern parks
Sowton, Pynes Hill and the offices toward the M5 are a different problem. The fabric is newer, parking is simpler, and a cable route often exists. The working day is no more tolerant of a lost morning. Staff expect wireless that covers the floor they were given, including the meeting rooms at the far end, and they expect a guest path that does not open the file share.
These sites often already have a comms cabinet someone else installed. We document it before we change it. A tidy restart of a cabinet we have not mapped is how a morning disappears.
The Science Park
Exeter Science Park, toward Clyst Honiton, is used by specialist and technical firms. They often arrive with systems they intend to keep, and with a clear view of who may touch them. We work around that. We do not propose a replacement in order to have a project. Where a firm already has its own technical staff, our role is the part they actually want handed over, written so both sides can see the join.
Arranging a visit
Call 01392 401314. The same line covers Newton Abbot. Say which part of Exeter you are in, what has stopped or what you want changed, and any access rule the building imposes. Plymouth is 01752 981688 and Totnes is 01548 531530.
After a first conversation we agree the scope in writing before we take ongoing access. You keep a note of what changed. If we need a decision on the day, we know who can make it.
What we usually look after
In Exeter that is often Microsoft 365 housekeeping, a helpdesk staff will actually use, wireless that matches the building, backups that have been restored in a test, and the quiet work of joiners and leavers. Projects — a move, a new site, a network that has reached its end — are scoped on their own so the monthly work stays readable. The services are described in full on their own pages, not repeated here as a list of keywords.

Questions
- Do you only work in the city centre?
No. Exeter here means the city and its business areas, including the centre, Marsh Barton, Matford, Sowton, Pynes Hill and the Science Park. The constraints differ. The enquiry line is the same.
- Is the Exeter number also for Newton Abbot?
Yes. Exeter and Newton Abbot share 01392 401314. Plymouth and Totnes have their own lines, because those enquiries are handled separately.
- We are in Exmouth, Crediton or somewhere nearby.
Call the Exeter line and say where you are. Other Devon towns are covered by arrangement. We do not publish a separate page for each of them.
