Households
Home and personal IT
Household work is the smaller part of this practice. It is not a lesser standard. People ask us to look at home offices, family machines, wireless that does not reach the room where someone works, and accounts that have become tangled.
What we will do
- Diagnose before recommending a replacement.
- Set up a new machine without adding software you did not ask for.
- Sort out wireless in an ordinary house, including extensions and the thick walls common in Devon.
- Help you make a copy of the files that would matter if a laptop failed.
- Untangle a personal Microsoft or Apple account where we can do so without taking it out of your control.
What we will not do
- Treat a home visit as a chance to look through private files.
- Discuss your household with another customer. In a small town that rule matters in practice, not only on paper.
- Mix your personal devices into an employer’s network unless that employer has instructed us in writing.
- Dress a simple job up as a contract.
How to start
Call the line for your area and say that it is a home enquiry. Say where you are, and what has stopped working or what you want set up. You do not need to describe private files on the first call.
Exeter and Newton Abbot: 01392 401314. Plymouth: 01752 981688. Totnes: 01548 531530.
If you are elsewhere in Devon, call the Exeter line and say so. Business work remains the larger part of the practice. Domestic work is accepted when we can do it properly.
Questions
- Will you come to a house?
Yes, by arrangement, when the work suits a visit. Many household jobs can be done remotely if you are comfortable with that. We agree which before we start.
- I work from home for an employer. Can you help?
We can help with equipment and connectivity that are yours. An employer’s network, accounts and data stay with the employer’s own arrangements unless they have asked us, in writing, to be involved.
- Do you discuss one customer’s home with another?
No. Household matters are treated as confidential, including where people know each other.
